Learning to swim freestyle can provide a great sense of accomplishment. But for many, the first step in this process is to instill a sense of confidence by telling yourself you can do this. Often, people are filled with fear or self-doubt; especially when deciding to learn to swim a little later in life. This is not uncommon and actually is a normal response.
Just like any new skill, the freestyle stroke should be broken down into small, manageable exercises with a clear image leading to the next step. As the student becomes proficient at each step, they will have the confidence to attempt the next. With a relaxed learning environment and an experienced, patient instructor, the freestyle stroke can be learned by all ages and abilities.
